Choose by the work, not only the degree name
The following examples help you distinguish the routes in media & communication. These are suggested trial tasks, not prescribed university assignments. Read the exact official curriculum after choosing the kind of work you want to learn.
BAJMC: compare the learning demands
BAJMC is a first-degree route for students who want to report, edit, produce audio/video or work with digital media. Enjoying social media is only a starting point. The stronger test is whether you can verify a claim, ask useful questions and turn raw material into a clear story.
Produce a short story about a public issue in your town. Use two independently checked sources, obtain consent for an interview and separate fact from opinion. Make a written version and a two-minute audio version; explain why you changed the structure for each format.
Alternative to investigate: Compare BA for broader humanities or language study if production and reporting are secondary interests. Read the BA guide.
MAJMC: compare the learning demands
MAJMC suits a graduate who wants more demanding reporting, communication research or production work. If you are moving from another discipline, identify what your earlier subject can add to a media beat, such as local business, education or public policy.
Take a publicly documented local issue and design a reported feature with a source plan, interview questions and a correction policy. Add an audience brief explaining who needs the information and how a written and video version would differ.
Alternative to investigate: Compare MA English when sustained text analysis and literature are closer to your goal than reporting or production. Read the MA English guide.
Before paying, request a sample assignment and a marking rubric for your selected route. For a student staying at home, this reveals whether the actual work depends on coding equipment, production tools, extensive reading or a supervised local placement.
