Begin with the programme’s own concessions
A university may offer a merit discount, support for defence families, disability concessions, alumni benefits or an achievement-based award. Each uses different documents. A counselling promise of “up to” a large waiver should not be entered into your budget as a confirmed amount.
Our matcher uses verified published criteria where available and tells you which rule matched. It also identifies missing checks instead of treating marks and family income alone as sufficient for every scholarship.
A published example: MUJ
The official MUJ scholarship page checked in October 2026 lists a 10% merit discount for 80% or more at the entry qualification, 20% for eligible Divyaang learners, 20% for specified defence personnel and families, 20% for MUJ alumni and 10% for government employees. Required evidence varies by category.
The page states only one scholarship can be used at a time and limits scholarships to domestic students. Financing can also affect eligibility for concessions or offers. Our matcher does not add percentages together; it shows candidates for university verification.
Do not confuse percentage and percentile
A scheme using a board percentile is comparing your result with other students’ results. Eighty percent marks and the eightieth percentile are not interchangeable. If a rule asks for percentile, obtain the relevant board or scheme evidence rather than substituting your percentage.
The same care applies to income: use the scheme’s definition of family income and the accepted certificate period. Income documents, domicile and category proofs may have renewal or issuing-authority requirements. A form asking only your approximate household income cannot confirm all of these.
Verify government schemes for online mode
A government portal may list schemes restricted to regular study, institutions in a specified list or particular courses. Do not assume that recognition of an online degree makes it eligible for every scholarship. Check the scheme’s mode restriction and the university’s role in verification.
The National Scholarship Portal uses One Time Registration for its application process. State schemes may use a separate portal. Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan links in our matcher are starting points; their current online-mode coverage and deadline must be checked in the scheme notice.
Get an award and calculate the net cost
Before paying, request written confirmation of the scholarship amount, what fee component it applies to, the payment plan, continuation conditions and the last applicable date. If only tuition is discounted, registration and examination charges may remain.
Keep a budget with a base case without scholarship and a confirmed-award case. This avoids a financial gap if an advertised offer expires or documents are rejected. If the award requires semester performance, add a future scenario where that renewal is not received.
Build an evidence folder before checking offers
Create a folder containing the student’s marksheets and the documents relevant to any claimed category, domicile, income, disability, defence-family or alumni condition. Record the issue date and the scheme’s accepted document format. The presence of a category on a form does not establish entitlement to every benefit; the published scheme rule and institution’s verification determine the result.
For a merit concession, identify the qualifying examination: Class 12, diploma or the completed bachelor’s degree may be used depending on the programme. For an alumni offer, confirm the exact awarding institution covered by the rule; similarly branded institutions are not automatically interchangeable. For a state or national scheme, check that the chosen programme and mode fit its conditions. A portal listing or a general income threshold alone is not enough to declare an online learner eligible.
Calculate the award on the correct fee base
Imagine a fictional concession of 10% on an eligible tuition component of ₹1,00,000, with ₹5,000 of registration charges outside that component. The concession is ₹10,000, so the illustrative payable amount is ₹90,000 + ₹5,000 = ₹95,000. It is not 10% off the combined ₹1,05,000 unless the rule says all those charges are covered. This example uses invented figures to show why the fee base matters.
Check whether the benefit applies to one semester or the full degree, whether it is deducted upfront or reimbursed, and whether renewal depends on performance or attendance. If a university says only one concession can be used, do not add merit, alumni and another offer together. Record an application under review separately from a confirmed amount. A family’s no-scholarship scenario should still be visible until the award conditions and payable quote are documented.
Track a scholarship as a small application project
Create a row with the official source, benefit description, eligible fee base, required documents, application route, deadline, decision status and renewal rule. Put a reminder ahead of a verified deadline so there is time to replace a missing document. If a deadline has not been published or checked, mark it unverified rather than using last year’s date as though it were current.
After submitting, keep the acknowledgement and ask how the result will be communicated. Before paying, confirm the concession on the invoice. If the scholarship matcher returns no match, that means no rule in the checked dataset matched the entered profile; it does not prove there are no opportunities anywhere. Use the official scholarship portal and university office to investigate further, and keep the distinction between a eligibility screen, a pending application and a sanctioned award.
Use this comparison checklist
| Benefit | Match basis | Remaining check |
|---|---|---|
| MUJ merit | 80%+ entry marks | Domestic status and documents |
| MUJ defence | Published personnel / family criteria | Service evidence |
| State scholarship | State, category and income screen | Online mode and current notice |
| NSAT award | Official test and award decision | Current score table and deadline |
Your next steps
- Check the scheme’s exact mode and course restrictions.
- Collect required proof and current notices.
- Do not combine benefits without explicit permission.
- Subtract savings only after written award confirmation.
Questions families ask
Does meeting a matcher rule guarantee an award?
No. It identifies a published eligibility screen; documents, programme conditions and university approval still apply.
Are state deadlines filled in automatically?
Only dates verified from an official notice are displayed. Otherwise the status is being verified.
