MCom can suit a commerce graduate who wants to deepen accounting, financial analysis or research. Start by identifying the area you want to strengthen. An applicant changing discipline should confirm whether their degree is permitted and whether the course assumes earlier accounting knowledge.
How it differs from nearby choices
MCom and MBA can both contain finance topics. Compare advanced accounting and research depth with management cases and organisational decision-making. A teaching or research ambition also needs the separate qualification rules of the target examination, institution or recruitment notice.
Try the work before paying
Use a public annual report to compare revenue, operating cash flow and debt across two years. Write a short explanation of why profit and cash flow differ. State the source pages and avoid presenting the exercise as investment advice.
Check whether the curriculum includes interpretation of financial statements, research design and an independently supervised dissertation.
