Who should consider this route?
BCom is useful to investigate if you enjoy keeping records accurate, understanding transactions and explaining where money goes. For a student helping in a family business, invoices, receivables and stock records provide practical context. Check whether the programme starts with accounting foundations if you did not study commerce in Class 12.
How it differs from nearby choices
Compare BCom with BBA by reading the compulsory accounting, taxation, law and finance papers. They are different routes even when both lead to business roles. A university degree and a professional credential such as CA or CS have separate entry, examination and membership requirements; neither should be treated as automatically included.
Try the work before paying
Create a practice ledger for a small shop using a clearly fictional set of ten transactions. Record sales, purchases, an unpaid invoice and a returned item. Reconcile cash and identify the difference between sales revenue and cash actually received.
Ask whether assessments include workings, corrections and explanations or only final numerical answers. A useful accounting task should make you trace a transaction through records and explain an error. For tax-related work, confirm which academic year and rules the prescribed material uses.
